Carmen La Cubana

The hit musical from Cuba
Duration: 2 hours 30 Minutes incl. intermission
Hall: Wim Sonneveld hall

A sizzling musical featuring Bizet’s classic score flavoured with authentic Cuban styles. In a town far from Havana on the eve of the Cuban revolution, Carmen dreams of a better life. She seduces the young soldier José into running away from his responsibilities and accompanying her to the city. But once Carmen becomes a ‘queen of Havana’, she loses interest in her faithful companion and turns to the charismatic boxer El Niño Martinez – with fateful consequences. Featuring a large company of singers, dancers and musicians, Carmen la Cubana is a sultry take on one of the most famous operas ever created.

The show will be performed in Spanish, using Dutch subtitles.

Carmen La Cubana features orchestrations by Tony Award winner Alex Lacamoire (Hamilton), mixing opera with salsa, mambo, rumba and cha-cha-cha and including musical favorites such as Habanera.
